QuRIOUS Kick-Off Meeting

QuRIOUS Kick-Off Meeting
Tuesday September 8 until Thursday September 10, 2026

The QuRIOUS Kick-Off Meeting takes place from Tuesday September 8 to Thursday September 10, 2026 in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). QuRIOUS PhD students and supervisors are invited to attend the event. If you are an external PhD student not working under QuRIOUS, but you would like to attend the event, please get in touch with Ineke Brouwer (Project Manager, University of Amsterdam) at [email protected].

Registration
To attend the event, registration is required using the registration form. Registration is free of charge and includes coffee/tea during the coffee breaks, lunch and a social program on Wednesday evening. Places are guaranteed for QuRIOUS PhD students and supervisors who register no later than July 13, 2026. Limited places are available for external PhD students (not working under QuRIOUS). ​
Hotel information
Please note that registration does not include a hotel reservation. However, a block of 30 hotel rooms have been prereserved at Hotel Casa (Google Maps). These preserved rooms can be booked via this link. For the nights of September 7-9, the rate is 170 euros per night (excluding city tax and breakfast). Of these rooms 10 rooms are also available on the night of September 10 at a rate of 270 euros (excluding city tax and breakfast). 

Please note that availability is limited to 30 rooms and the room block is reserved until July 13, 2026, so be sure to make your reservation as soon as possible!
Program
The program will be made available closer to the event and will consist of:
  • Lectures from QuRIOUS supervisors about the research themes of QuRIOUS
  • Keynote lectures from QuROUS supervisors about their research
  • Presentations by QuRIOUS PhD students
  • Transferable skills trainings (only for PhD students; limited places for PhD students who are not funded by QuRIOUS)
  • A canal boat tour including dinner on the Amsterdam canals on the evening of Wednesday September 9, 2026

The program will start at 9.00 on Tuesday September 8 and end around 16.00 on Thursday September 10.
Travel information
Travel to hotel Casa: 
  • Hotel Casa is located a short walk from Amstel station.
  • To get to Hotel Casa from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, you can take a train. This will require 1 change at Amsterdam Centraal. Trains run very frequently; exact times can be found here.
  • Train tickets can be purchased at yellow machines at the airport, or using a debit card to check-in and check-out. To get to Hotel Casa from Amsterdam Centraal Station, either take a train (see above) or a direct metro (lines 51, 53 and 54). Metros run very frequently. Ticketing works via check-in and check-out at the entry and exit gates. 

Travel to Amsterdam Science Park:
  • ​​To travel to Amsterdam Science Park from Hotel Casa you can take direct bus from Amstel Station. From Amstel Station, take bus 40 in the direction of Muiderpoortstation. The busride takes ~15 min, and the bus leaves every 10-15 minutes. Ticketing on the bus works via check-in and check-out with a debit card upon entry and exit of the bus.
  • To travel to Amsterdam Science Park from Schiphol Airport you can take a train. This will require 1 change at Amsterdam Centraal. Trains run very frequently; exact times can be found here.​
